Guinness World Records Wants You to Vote!

My 12 year old is obsessed with the Guinness World Records! We have a copy of the world record book from 2007 and I bet he has that thing memorized by now. I remember as a child being curious about the people who had the longest fingernails, the tallest man and woman, the smallest man and woman. I was very excited to find out the Guinness wants MY input! Well OK and yours too! I must remember even though this is my blog it is not always about me!

Guinness Word Records has assembled a shortlist of record-holders tapped as the most popular or prolific of the decade and is now asking fans to vote online for their own personal favorites. Curious as to who made that list? Well here is one of them...Svetlana Pankratova who has the World’s Longest Legs at nearly 52 inches!! WOW!!!

So now go vote for your favorite world record holder.....VOTING ENDS CHRISTMAS WEEKEND! So go hurry up! Click here to vote!

On the seventh day of Christmas.....CSN stores review-Bilibo giveaway

Welcome to day 7 of the 12 days of Christmas my2boyz style

CSN Stores is your ONE PLACE TO GO to find everything you need for your home and more. This site is nothing short of AMAZING! We have been looking for a new dresser for our bedroom and i found several to choose from in all price ranges and broken down into several categories for easy navigation, their furniture selection is quite extensive. My niece just had a baby girl and I am so excited, especially since i have 2 boys! I was browsing around looking through the wide selection of nursery decor and found SO MANY things that I would love to buy her! Like this and this and oh this!

I need new dress boots and I found several cute pairs that I think I need . I also found some tennis shoes for my little guy who seems to be growing leaps and bounds!

I searched all the categories and began to think how much I love the fact that if you need office supplies, an area rug, outdoor gear, a kitchen sink, kitchen necessities, a yoga mat or a dog bed for Fido THIS is THE place to go!!

A little from their web site:

Based in Boston, CSN Stores LLC began in 2002 and has grown rapidly into a Top 3 online U.S. retailer of home and office goods with 400+ employees. Beyond providing unparalleled customer service, selection, and savings to our U.S. customers, CSN Stores has opened its doors to online shoppers from Canada, the U.K., and Germany. Recently named to the Hot 100 List of online retailers for 2009, CSN Stores continues to grow.
Beyond stellar customer service, our 200+ sites at CSN Stores offer the largest selection of items for most home and office goods. And these items are priced right to be very competitive with other sites, providing our customers with strong savings, too. This combination of benefits is rare among online retailers and is what sets us apart.

CSN Stores are so wonderful that they have decided to give one of my readers a Bilibo Play Shell! this thing is so cool and I am sure I will be buying for a gift for someone in the near future!

Here is some info about Bilibo

On the sixth day of Christmas....Glamma Toys review/giveaway

Welcome to day 6 of the 12 days Christmas my2boyz style

Recently I was introduced an online toy retailer Glamma Toys, they sell a wide variety of not only fun but educational toys for all ages. I am in love with this toy site!! Not only do they offer free shipping on orders over $75.00 but they also have a refer a friend program. When you refer a friend and after they have made their first purchase you get $5.00 and they get 10%! Wait it gets better! They also have a special section for special needs toys which I found to be incredible. I have never been on a toy site that has a special section for special needs children then again maybe I never looked! I have mentioned this area of their site to a friend who teaches special needs children. Speaking of teaching there is also an area for Educators. The Glamma Toys site is super easy to navigate, with options like shop by age or by brand.

We were sent Frigits Deluxe for review. It is a wild marble ride down the side of your refrigerator. We LOVED this and yes I said we because they whole family has played with this! My youngest was the first one to try out our new toy, that is after I cleared the side of the refrigerator of all his art work. He played with it for about an hour which is great for a child who is ADHD! It was trial and error with him trying to get everything just perfect so the marble would continue the whole course!

WIN IT!!! Galmma Toys is offering one of my readers Fridge Deluxe!

Always a concern...is that toy safe? Does it meet industry standards?

Like every parent I am concerned about the safety of our toys. Not only what they are made of but are they safe for the recommend age, or the big question...have they been recalled?? Or not sure what toy meets the toy industry standards? Did that toy you child has been begging for win an award??? It can all be so over whelming but fear not there are a few places to go to find out about toy safety and what the best toys of the year are.

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is the toy industry's trade organization: the one that hosts Toy Fair in February in New York , and the one who has led American toy makers through the new toy safety testing laws and standards they must meet. TIA is a not-for-profit trade association for producers and importers of toys and youth entertainment products sold in North America, representing over 500 companies who account for approximately 85% of domestic toy sales. Toy safety is the number one priority for the toy industry. TIA has a long history of leadership in toy safety including development of the first comprehensive toy safety standard more than 30 years ago, and working with government, consumers and industry on ongoing programs to ensure safe play. And now, TIA is reaching out to parents to help us understand how to buy safe/great toys. They have created two websites for consumers. One is Toy Info . Check out this link to a video that provides tips for shopping for safe toys and how to keep your children safe with their toys after they're home. It is a must watch even for us veteran moms! This site is filled with tons of useful information and is updated regularly as needed!

Wondering what toy to get your child, niece, nephew or grand children then go to Toy Awards it showcases the top toys in 11 product categories that have been nominated for the 2010 Toy of the Year Awards (TOTY). Recognized as the “Oscars®” of the toy industry, the awards program is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The TOTY winners will be announced on February 13, 2010 at a banquet and ceremony in New York City, officially kicking off American International Toy Fair. I loved the layout of the site, super easy to navigate plus there is downloadable PDF holiday shopping list! There is also a contest going on right now! Simply pick your your favorite toy in each of the 11 toy categories, from among 6-7 finalist products in each category. At the end of the survey you will be given the opportunity to win ALL THE TOYS in the category of your choice. (Winner will be announced on 2/13/2010)

I have been to both sites SEVERAL times as I shop for toys for not only my boys but for my 4 year old niece and 2 year old nephew and soon to be here grand niece/nephew(hubby's niece is due ANY DAY NOW) They are a wealth of information and I recommend you pay them a visit!

On the fifth day of Christmas....Hugg-A-Planet review and giveaway

Welcome to day five of 12 days of Christmas my2boyz style.

When I was given the opportunity to review HUGG-A-PLANET from Peace Toys I was thrilled! Both of my boys are very much into maps. At my 12 year olds school conference his history teacher said "Tony is super freaky smart, especially when it comes to maps, I tell him to reference maps in class and he never needs to. At first I thought ya right, but he gets it right 99.9% of the time. I am very impressed" This child has been obsessed with maps since he new what a map was and what it was for. That curiosity has rubbed off on his little brother who has asked for a road atlas from Santa. Let me tell you when the Hugg-A-Planet's arrived there were squeals of delight from my 6 year old who said right away "A globe I can snuggle and sleep with, thank you for blogging this mommy you are the best" We were sent the Earth and Moon which is not only soft, cuddly and the cutest thing I have ever seen but it is an accurate globe!

The moon sticks on the earth with Velcro and can be tucked away inside earth! My 6 year old got a kick out of that!

We were also sent Hugg-a-Planet Mars

This also is an accurate globe of Mars, how cool is that? My 12 year old was amazed with this, he found a map he did not know, he has been studing it for a while now and i am sure it has it memorized!

Not only did the Hugg-A-Planet line win the "Best 25 of 25 years" award for Parents Choice Awards but the line is also recommended by The National Association of Gifted Children. The coolest thing is that the Hugg-A-Planet Earth, Hugg-A-Moon and Hugg-A-Planet Mars will circle the Earth for many years to come! They will make a full orbit around the Earth every 90 minutes on the Space Station and will stay there for as long as the space station remains active, at least till 2016, and will orbit the Earth 5860 times every year! My boys were in AWE when I told them that! NASA chose the Hugg-A-Planet globes as a space-based teaching tool because of their geographic accuracy and soft construction. They also can be tossed around like a ball or used as a pillow which is perfect for zero gravity!!!

I was very impressed with the softness of the Hugg-A-Planets, I had expected them to be firmer but LOVE that they are not! My 6 year old has been sleeping with the Earth, Moon and Mars every night! I have even found myself grabbing them and snuggling with one on the couch as I watch TV.

Some of the other other Hugg-A-Planets include Baby Hugg-A-Planet Earth, Hugg-A-Star and Hugg America. The Hugg-A-Earth also comes in a super size! Go check out their web and see what else they have to offer, you are going to want all of it!

Now for some GREAT news. One of my readers will win the Hugg-A-Planet Earth and Moon and the Hugg-A-Planet Mars!

Here are the rules!

You must visit the Hugg-A-Planet/Peace Toys web site and tell me something you learned other then what I posted in my review! You MUST do this or all other entries will be void!

On the fourth day of Christmas.......K'nex review

Welcome to day four of 12 days of Christmas my2boyz style

WE LOVE K'NEX in our house so when I was given the opportunity to review a set was I thrilled. We were sent the K'nex 400 Piece Value Tub and when it arrived it was greeted by two very anxious boys. If you are not familiar with K'nex then you need to get with the program! They are the next generation of construction sets. This set consisted of several sizes of rods, building blocks, wheels and 13 different types of connectors making the possibilities endless!

The boys very quickly opened the little bags that held all the pieces, flipped open the building idea book, decided on a project together (shocking I know) and went to work with the help of Dad who seemed just as excited as the boys were! I love great toys that the whole family can enjoy TOGETHER!! Here is the Rocket Ship they built making a landing on the runway that my 6 year old added to the project because we all know Rocket Ships need a place to land!

The set is geared for ages 7 and up but my 6 year old had no problem following the directions and manipulating the little pieces. There were 10 different building suggestions in the guide and instructions on how to find more on the K'nex web site which is amazing. There are areas for parents and educators, a K'nex club, product guides and of course an online shop-K'nex Direct. K'nex gives back 10% of all sales on K'nex Direct to the Children's hospital of Philadelphia and there is free shipping on all orders over $100.

Here is an example of what else can be built with K'nex

This a replica of the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier in Chicago, it is in one of the gift shops, trust me when I say this pictures DOES not do it justice, it was quite impressive and was actually spinning!

All K'nex are made in the USA in Hatfield, PA! I LOVE things that are made in the USA!!
Wonder how the idea of K'nex came about?? It began when founder and now Chairman Joel Glickman was playing with straws. He was at a wedding and started messing around with some straws and thinking about the possibilities, obviously a little bored? :)

K'nex would be the perfect gift for any age child on your list as they also have building sets geared towards toddlers that have a Sesame Street Theme and sets for the child who is 5+. If you are looking for a toy that will provide hours of entertainment then K'nex is for you!
See you tomorrow for day five of my 12 Days of Christmas!

K'nex provided me with the product to review through my affiliation with Team Mom. The opinions stated are mine and just that my opinion.

2)Going to see Santa at Younkers/Boston Store the day after Thanksgiving....line is long but so worth it!

3) Baking Christmas cookies, my youngest LOVES LOVES this.

4) Making a gingerbread house, this is something we all enjoying doing!

5) We all go shopping for a few gifts for Toys for Tots. a few years ago this did not go over well with our little guy, he was mad that we were giving the toys away! So glad he grew out of that!

On the second day of Christmas.....Maukilo review and giveaway

Welcome to the second day of Christmas my2boyz style!

The biggest thing as a parent that concerns me about children's toys are all the toxins associated with them. From toxic paint and toxic plastic it is hard to figure out what is safe and what is not when it comes to purchasing toys for our children. Recently I was introduced to a new fabulous web site Maukilo.com. Maukilo is a place to find expertly made, heirloom-quality toys that are not only well made, but they’re also made to exceed safety standards. Wooden toys sold at Maukilo.com are finished with non-toxic, natural lacquers; and plastic toys are made from child-safe, PVC-free materials. Maukilo’s goal is to provide toys that are made to last, so that any toy can withstand the test of time and be passed onto the next generation .

We we excited to be able to try one of the thousands of fabulous toys that are sold on Maukilo.com, Automoblox mini set of 3

My boys love them! Trust me when I say they have been played with everyday since they arrived on our door step! The Automoblox are a puzzle design system that allows children to create their own unique car styles. They also come in a larger size which might make it's way under the tree this year!

Maukilo is owned by HABA, a 70-year-old German toy company, and shares a warehouse with HABA in upstate New York. Because of this partnership, Maukilo.com is able to offer more than 1,500 HABA items, the widest selection of HABA products in the United States. Maukilo rounds out its assortment with other wonderful brands, all of which meet the company’s motto: “Buy once. Play forever.”

Maukilo is offering one of my readers a $25 Gift certificate to use on their site! How great is that?

Like always there are some rules:

You must visit Maukilo.com and look around and come back and tell me what toy you love for the child in your life to have. THIS IS MANDATORY if you do not do this all other entries will be deleted, trust me I check!

Fun with MythBusters and water

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to review MythBusters Weird World of Water Science Activity Kit from Elmers, winner of the Family Fun Magazine 2009 T.O.Y. First I must say we LOVE watching MythBusters and my boys LOVE anything to do with science so there was some excitement surrounding this when it arrived in the mail. However when it came time to play with it my 6 year old was the only one who showed interest!

The kit comes with an Activity guide that gives you clear step by step directions and some fun facts tossed in. It also includes:

-15 beads-3 pieces balsa wood-2 plastic 1 liter bottles-1 bag glitter confetti-Straw-Clear tube-Cylinder-Fin holder-Funnel-Nose cone-Pipette-Stopper assembly-Red and yellow food coloring-Vortex connector

The kit is geared for children 9 and up but we found one of the experiments that would be easiest for him, I settled on Myth of the Deadly Vortex. It went quite well and we had fun trying to figure out if we busted the myth or not...he said yes so that is what we are going with.

We also tried the Liquid Rainbow with so so results, he was anxious thus the kit being geared towards older children, but we had fun.

The other experiments included are Myth of the Pantry Projectile and Myth of the Man who Could walk on Water. While the experiments are not overly complex this would be a wonderful gift for any older child who loves science or the MythBusters as they would get the most out of the projects. My younger son had fun but lost interest quickly and was not interested in busting any myths.

What a Disappointment

I was SO EXCITED to watch Nip Tuck last night, the season premier. I love Nip Tuck, yes I know it is a bit twisted and over the top but I love it none the less. I had the DVR all set to record as it is on when my 12 year old is still up, not quite the type of show one would want a child to see. So the second he was in bed the TV went on I was ready.

Christan was his usual self, an ass and Sean was his wimpy self, it was great!!! Matt was going to be a mime, if he were my son I would have smacked him...HARD!!!

I was enjoying it so much, fast forwarding through the commercials then it happened...I had to do a double take...was it? Could it be??? Yep...Mario Lopez....EEEWWWWW!!!! Yes the one and only form Saved by the Bell! I was MORE THEN DISAPPOINTED...WTH??? Why Mario Lopez? He is an AWFUL actor and that cheesy smile, I would love to smack it off his face. His character was bizarre but what else would you expect from Nip Tuck?

So there I was torn between turning it off and watching the rest, yes that is how much I dislike Mario. It was a struggle, I decided to watch the rest and I am glad I did. I am so scared to do a search and see if Mario is a permanent fixture at McNamara/Troy, what if he is??? I do not think I could handle an hour a week with him....I might need to find another show? We will see...any one watch it? Your thoughts???

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!????? As I am writing this I am watching Regis and Kelly...guess who one of the guests is??? YEP..Mario...can I not get away from this man???? UGH!!!!!!!!

The Shandle Review

Are you ALWAYS asking your children if they have washed their hands after using the bathroom? I have 2 boys and I am CONSTANTLY reminding them.

With Flu season upon us and fears of H1N1 I feel like I am after them always! So when I was contacted to review The Shandle I was excited! Not only did I think it would be a great reminder to wash hands but to also lift the toilet seat when the boys do their business. You see my 6 year old WILL NOT touch the toilet with his hands AT ALL! I have witnessed him NOT lift the toilet seat up and then flush with his foot. When I question him about it he says "It is gross to touch the toilet, you can get sick"
Him not lifting up the seat tends to be an issue in our house...EVERY TIME I need to use the restroom I must double check to make sure there is no tinkle on the seat and 9 out 10 times there is. This is especially wonderful in the middle of the night when I am 1/2 asleep and not quite thinking to check...yes I know gross right??

The Shadle comes to the rescue!

The Shandle is super easy to install and I had no problems doing it! You simply peel the backing off and stick it to your toilet seat, after you cleaned the surface of course.

It took me less then 20 seconds to install and should hold on for at least 6 months! I hope it brings me many a bathroom visit with a dry toilet seat! And what a cute gentle remider to wash your hands!

I showed it to my 6 year old and he said his is willing to touch The Shandle and will now make sure the seat is up. He is starting to read and told me it says "Wash your hands" so hopefully he will do so!

Go pay their web site a visit and purchase a few for your home and at less then $7.00 each you will be happy you did so!

A big thank you to The Shadle for the opportunity to review their awesome product!

The only compensation received for this review post is a sample of the product. The opinions expressed at my2boyz are those of blog author only. I was given The Shandle for free to conduct my review. The words are all mine and I was not forced to write anything!
