Tuesday's Green Tip and CONTEST!!

CONTEST IS OFFICIALLY OVER! WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON TUESDAY AUGUST 12! THANK YOU!!!! 355 entries!! WOW!!

Happy Tuesday! Time for Tuesday's Green tip and a Green give away!

We have visited this room of the house before, the laundry room. When I first posted about this room I had just purchased Charlie's Soap and had only used a few times. Now that I have been using it for some time now I have grown to LOVE this product! This stuff takes out EVERYTHING! Seriously! From grease to grass stains to poop! Yes poop. This stuff would come in handy for those of you who cloth diaper!

I purchased the Liquid soap in a gallon and all you need is an ounce. That is a lot of loads of laundry! I purchased their pump that dispenses an ounce so no measuring! Our clothes look wonderful and THE BEST PART...it is natural. I also purchased their All purpose Cleaner and have grown to love it as well. It cuts grease like no other and took grass stains out of school uniform pants that had been sitting like that all summer! Nothing. else. worked.

Now for the contest.....some Charlie's Soap of your own! One lucky winner will receive 2 bags of Laundry Powder, 2 small bottles of Laundry Liquid and 2 sprayers of All Purpose Cleaner. That is a $75.00 value! That is 192 loads of laundry!! Winner will be picked by random at 11:00 PM CST on Monday August 11th and winner will be announced on Tuesday Green Tip blog on August 12th.

Here are the contest rules:

Leave me a comment for one entry. For an additional entry tell me your favorite green tip in a seperate comment. Contest open to all! If you do not have a blog send me an email!

Good luck and thank you Charlie's Soap!

My green tip (and thanks for extra entry!)...get 2 timers in the bathroom for showers. Have the first one set for 5 minutes so the person taking the shower has a 'heads up' that they have to wrap it up and the second one for a few minutes later, to end the shower, and using hot water...the trick is to get your family into the habit of setting them...but they WILL once they get into the right habits. THANKS

I would like to try these great products. I'm always looking for a better and greener way to clean.
I recycle as much as I can and have learned to make nice art projects from discarded items. I found an old furnance grate and cleaned it up, painted it and made a prety piece of "art" to hang on my fence.
We donate all items that we no longer to local charities.
Still learning on ways to do better.

Am I supposed to leave a green tip? Instead of throwing boxes away, I use ALOT of them, cut up to draw or paint on, or we use the cardboard for book covers, because my kids draw about 100 pictures a day. They love when you make a book out of their stuff.
P.S. Need help with laundry, send the soap!

Okay, here's my "Green" Tip! If someone else already posted this I apologize, I tried to make sure I read all the tips so I didn't duplicate! This Green Tip is for anyone who frequents Starbucks or any Coffee Shop - Bring your own Coffee Cup or Mug when you go to get your daily burst of Java! If everyone did this, we would cut down on millions of disposable styrofoam and paper coffee cups being thrown away everyday! I already keep my coffee mug in my car so I am prepared for each and every visit I make to any coffee shop - no more disposable cups for me!

My favorite green tip: purchase a strip outlet that has an on and off switch to plug in your TV, Wii, etc. Just turn it on and off when you are using these items instead of leaving everything plugged straight into the wall, and your electric bill will be a little less!

My green tip is Turn off your screen saver. Did you know the EPA has estimated that using a computer's "sleep mode" reduces its energy consumption by 60 to 70 percent and, on a large scale, ultimately could save enough electricity each year to power Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, cut electric bills by $2 billion, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of five million cars? A screen saver that displays moving images causes your monitor to consume as much electricity as it does in active use. A blank screen saver is only slightly better but that reduces energy consumption by a small amount.

The best screen saver is also the best energy saver: turn off your monitor when you're not using it. The next best idea is to use your computer's power management feature to automatically shut the monitor down when it is not in use.

Despite the rumors, leaving your computer on overnight is in fact less efficient that shutting it down and booting it up the next day. Turning off your computer will decrease the amount of energy it uses, reduces its mechanical stress, prolong its life.
