Tuesday's Green Tip - Review and Giveaway

CONTEST CLOSED! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ENTERED!

Hello and welcome to this weeks Tuesday's Green Tip. This week I am doing a review and give away of Seventh Generation "Living Home Starter Kit".

I was so excited when this arrived on my doorstep, I am a huge fan of Seventh Generation's products. We use their laundry soap, dish soap, dish detergent and several of their paper products but I had never tried any of their house hold cleaners until now.

The "Living Home Starter Kit" includes everything you need to clean your bathroom, kitchen and all glass surfices.

Ruby Grapefruit & Herb Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner
Green Mandarin and Leaf Natural All-Purpose Cleaner
Emerald Cypress and Fur Tub and Tile Cleaner
Green Mandarin and Leaf Shower Cleaner
Emerald Cypress and Fur Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Wild Orange and Cedar Spice Kitchen Cleaner
2 Rolls of Natural Paper Towels
Seventh Generation Tote

My expectations were high and they were exceeded! All of the products work beautifully and smelled so delicious. My children even thought they smelled good and of course because they are from Seventh Generation they are 100% natural!

From their web site:

Seventh Generation is committed to becoming the world's most trusted brand of authentic, safe, and environmentally-responsible products for a healthy home. For 20 years, the closely held Burlington, Vermont-based company has been at the forefront of a cultural change in consumer behavior and business ethics.

The company derives its name from the Great Law of the Iroquois that states, "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations." Every time you use a Seventh Generation product you are making a difference by saving natural resources, reducing pollution, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.

Now...for the good news.... Seventh Generation is giving one of my readers their very own "Living Home Starter Kit"!

We have been using Method products for quite a while now, but I have been waning to try Charlie's soap products. So many green suggestions;
reusable canvas bags for shopping
recycle
compost
use rain barrels...

Congrats Jennifer! Jennifer please contact me with your address so i can get your soap to you!!

Now for the Green tip....I have decided to use some of the wonderful tips that were given for my contest.

I have been washing most of my laundry in cold water.

My green tip is to have your husband switch from shaving cream to shaving soap and a shaving brush. This keeps those shaving cream cans out of the land fills, and it's cheaper, too! We find our shaving soap and shaving brushes at CVS.

I just recently discovered that it is not necessary to wash blue jeans every day. In fact, it is recommended to NOT wash them. Supposedly, it's recommended on the tag of pricey European jeans to go a month without washing them. I don't think I can stand to do that, but I can go a couple days. It is also recommended to line dry them, which is something I prefer to do anyway.

My green tip Don't add to our over used thrash accumulation by throwing out dryer sheets After each use put then in a jar that you add a few cap fulls of fabric softener to, shake take out and clip them all with a one clothespin, let dry and voila! new dryer sheets to use.

Instead of using Ajax cleanser to clean my sinks I have been using Baking Soda, it works very well.

My green tip is to turn off the water while brushing your teeth & soaping up your hands while washing. Saves a bunch of water! Also, you can use gray water to water plants, etc.

Okay, here's my green tip:Resell, donate or make something out of old kids' clothes. If they get stained, either use the fabric or pass it on to someone else who can. If we reused more clothes and bought used ones instead of brand new, we could eliminate a lot of waste.

There were so many WONDERFUL tips and again a HUGE Thank you to all!!!

Until next Tuesday...... keep it Green!

Tuesday's Green Tip

I have decided to dedicate Tuesday as Green Tip Day, I challenge you to join along.

Some of you may know that I made it a goal this year to living a more Green life. It has not been difficult at all, in fact it has been ALLOT easier then I thought it would be. Today's tip is ...bring your own bags to the grocery store.

Plastic bags take 1,000 years to decompose in our landfills. Sure some stores have bins for recycling them but only 1% of plastic bags used to hold our goods are recycled! Paper is only good if you recycle it.

The bags I have been using are Envirosax, I LOVE THEM!!! (I went with the Retro colors)They are big, hold up to 2 "Plastic" bags worth of groceries. They are super light weight and fold up neatly in a little pouch so you can carry all 5 bags in your purse! Since using these bags I have not had to use any plastic bags. You can you even carry the bags like a purse meaning less trips between the car and house. I have had at least 1/2 dozen people ask me about them. I saw one of them with the bags last week. I am so happy that I am making a difference, a small one, but a difference none the less.
